New Residents

The City of Norwood Young America provides municipal water and sewer services. Your bill is based on how much water you use—more usage means a higher bill. To save money, conserve water where you can. Below are some easy ways to reduce water use:

• Take shorter showers — save up to 7 gallons per minute
• Turn off the tap when brushing teeth or shaving
• Only run dishwashers and washing machines when full
• Fix leaks — even a slow drip can waste 20 gallons a day
• Install faucet aerators and efficient shower heads
• Use less water in the bath or toilet tank (try placing a full plastic bottle in the tank)
• Sweep driveways instead of hosing them down
• Water your lawn less often and use a nozzle that conserves water

Every drop counts—small changes can make a big impact on your bill.

During summer months water usage can be over 4 times that of winter usage. The City of Norwood Young America follows the water conservation program by enforcing water restrictions year-round.

Follow the odd / even rule by address to calendar day. If your address ends in an odd number (ex. 1475) you can water on the odd numbered calendar days, 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. If your house number ends in an even number (ex. 1474) you can water on the even calendar days, 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.

There is to be no watering by any address between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. This time frame will allow the water towers to refill and it is also the hottest time frame when a majority of the water evaporates.

Compost
Yard, garden, and tree waste can be recycled into compost.  In fact, putting it in your garbage is illegal in Minnesota.  Leaves, grass and plant trimmings, along with some types of food waste, can be combined in a backyard compost. The NYA compost site is located at 640 Tacoma Blvd and is open Wednesdays 3-8pm, and Saturdays 8am-3pm. This site is to be used by NYA residents only. Residents must reside within city limits to use this site. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, will be checked.

Garbage
Weekly trash and recycling pickup is provided by Republic Environmental Service at 763-972-3335 or Waste Management at 800-450-9378.

Recycling
The NYA Recycle Center (located at 421 W Railroad St) is available to all Carver County residents and is open Wednesdays 3pm-6pm and Saturdays 8am-12pm. For more information on materials accepted at the NYA Recycle Center, click here.
