Yard Waste Recycling

Yard, garden, and tree waste can be recycled into compost. In fact, putting it in your garbage is illegal in Minnesota. Leaves, grass, and plant trimmings, along with some types of food waste, can be combined in a backyard compost bin to create a valuable soil additive for your lawn and garden. That is recycling at its best! Later, use the finished compost to improve your soil or as mulch around plants.

City residents of Norwood Young America may bring their yard waste to 640 Tacoma Boulevard (located in the Industrial Park). Accepted materials at this site include brush and lawn clippings only. The site is open Wednesdays 3pm-6pm and Saturdays 8am-12pm (April-November only). This site is to be used only by NYA residents who reside within city limits. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, will be checked.

  • OPEN April-November, watch the City website for updates
  • ALWAYS CLOSED on Federal Holidays and long-Holiday Weekends; please plan accordingly
  • Closures and updates are posted on the City’s website and at the gate
